Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork

What a name… the “Black Diamond Alpine Carbon Cork” hiking poles. I started using these poles after my previous ones from Black Diamond did break after about 15 years of usage.

I used these poles this summer and would like to share my experience. Right from the start, they are the best poles I have ever used. The package is simply stunning: The poles come at 487 gr per pair - not the lightest, but very sturdy. The length is adjustable from 100 to 130 cm, and they measure 61 cm in its collapsed form. The click closure system is made out of metal and very robust and precise. For all the tours the poles provided a perfect, stable and reliable platform.

I am a huge fan of the grips - the upper ones in cork that work very well, especially in sweaty conditions. A must-have for me is the extended grip part - it is so comfortable to adjust hand positions on the uphill or while traversing steeper sections. The grip strap is functional and well-designed. I don’t use straps too often, and they worked very nicely when in use. The grip is also compatible with whippet accessories for winter use.

The poles for me are not only important while hiking but also in camp. I often use pole-stabilized tents. For this usage the Alpine Cork work also very well. The tent profits of the stable construction and the interesting length adjustment range. For my pyramid tent, a longer version would be more suitable.

Probably the only negative is the steep price of approx CHF 225. Quite some money, but if they hold up as well as the previous Black Diamond poles I had, it is well worth the investment.

Highly recommended.
